HMV 102 serial number question

Post by poodling around »

I wonder why the serial number has 'F.13' circled on the right hand side ?

Thank you very much for any help / advice you can give.

Probably an Inspectors mark signifying the machine has tested OK !

Probably 'F' for Fail and 13 because it was so bad

I haven't seen this before though ? Unusual maybe?

It must be very rare then--a 102 is one of the best, or so they say! You might have the only bad 102 in the world. :)

Ha ! Yes, the 102 is so good I have two - one with a 5a soundbox / reproducer and the other with a 5b. Strangely though, the 5a one (the subject of this thread) sounds better than the 5b one.

Resurrecting another thread, sorry!

But again, might be of interest. Also has the "F" stamp on the disc. Did anyone ever find out what they mean?

Sadly I don't think that the reason for these marks was ever definitively found out.

They are not that often seen on the disc and are another interesting mystery !!

Oh, never worry about giving old threads a new airing .... just don't mention the missing photo's lol !
