Can This EMG Soundbox go On an Expert?

Post by Garret »

Hello all,

I know this is marked EMG, but would it be appropriate to put this soundbox on an Expert Minor, or should I wait for an Expert soundbox?

Cordially,

Hi Garret

Yes, an EMG soundbox will fit on your Expert. How's that horn?

Orchosol,

I'm sure the sound box would fit, but is it appropriate or correct to put an EMG soundbox on an Expert?

The horn is still in two pieces. I am working on another gramophone at the moment, but am slowly gathering the parts I need to restore this Expert.

Depends on what's meant by appropriate or correct! They were two different firms, though their histories were closely related. Correct in terms of strict originality, no.

Owners of Gramophones, particularly in the UK, were often known to switch around soundboxes to suit their own tastes - so if it fits the machine and works well there should be nothing wrong with using it. If you recoil at the idea, then use a Meltrope.

They both look very similar and are from two very close companies, it should be fine, it all depends how strict you want to be in terms of originality, there is little difference between the two boxes except a name in terms of looks, each may sound different but only slightly, both WILL sound amazing if properly adjusted!

Good luck with the horn, I have started constructing a brace for a emg MK9 horn to hold the horns bell and slowly push it back into original position from its current sagged position
