Re: Mechanical Music Extravaganza Fall 2021 Update

I reached out to Michael D. via email a few days ago for more info but have not heard back. Given the variables you mentioned and the number of months between now and the usual show dates, it would not surprise me if we didn't have more definitive info until the end of the summer.

Re: Question on Amberola 1-A Problem

Hello, I have an Amberola 1-A serial # 491. The problem is that cylinder boxes do not fit in the drawers. The drawers have the early lattice or crate type separations for the boxes. Just to clarify a bit, talking about "early"/"late" distinctions for the 1A is not quite accurate...

Re: DD stylus

Expert stylus used to sell them, but I'd suggest you read the reviews and comments on this board before buying from them. You are far better off working with Steve Medved or Wyatt Markus and getting a replacement through them.

Re: Edison Home vs. Amberola 1A

I'd say it depends on what you're comparing. A Home with a witch's hat horn will never sound as good as a 1A. A Home/Standard/Triumph/Fireside with a properly rebuilt reproducer and a cygnet horn, IMHO, sounds better than a 1A, albeit not by much.

Re: GRAND GRAPOPHONE TALKING MACHINE ADVERTISING POSTER

I know this seller personally and he is absolutely 100% reliable and honest. He promptly shipped the posters by USPS Media Mail and they are in transit. If he is slow answering emails, I can’t justify that (I have been pressuring him for years to check his emails daily) but Mike is Mike, and he wil...

Re: Edison Phonograph, approximate value?

If you are serious about acquiring an Edison phonograph, you would be well advised to invest in the definitive work on the subject before making a purchase. Long out of print it will be expensive, but well worth the cost. The revised edition pictured is a considerable improvement on the original. A...

Re: eBay sellers can no longer use PayPal under new terms MAKES THE NEWS !

And I personally know of two people who have been killed by allowing people they don't know (i.e. via CraigsList) onto their properties. WOW Really ! That's astonishing :o Unfortunately no, it's not. I would suggest reading a book called "How to Be Invisible" which is about maintaining pr...

Re: Edison single vs double motor- different operation principles?

Realistically, nothing. With the standard B-series motor, the only difference between single and double spring motors, other than obviously the springs and barrels, is that the double spring uses a shorter mounting bracket than the single. All the bedplates are drilled to use either one, so converti...

Re: Edison Phonograph, approximate value?

I'd like to add that based on the photos, it appears that the reproducer stylus is worn and is starting to cause noticeable wear to the records. The stylus can be "turned" to fix this, but I don't think of that as a beginner job. Just one more factor to consider. I would agree that if a 2/...
