Re: HMV Model 1

People otherwise known in English slang as "anoraks". The word originates from the Greenlandic "annoraaq".
It's original meaning was and still is a type of hooded coat. Not a Scandinavian word, but close ;) .

Re: Columbia model 214 portable

An interesting machine, well worth the effort of restoration. You certainly know how to find them.
I have never come across this model before, but the case covering is the nearest match to my G-208 that I have ever seen.

Re: PAPER HORN "BALMAIN"

Adrian encountered the same problem, no verification question to answer.
I have contacted the Forum Administrator on his behalf and hope for a positive outcome.
The word "genius" is over used, but Adrian is the nearest I have ever met.

Re: Record lubricants and fillers.

If necessary I first clean the record with a wet wipe. I never ever immerse records in water. On a dry record I use Mr Sheen multi surface polish NOT their wax furniture polish. I spray some onto a soft cloth and apply it sparingly all over the record, including the label which comes up brighter and...

Re: Expert Audio-Player for auction in UK.

It or an identical example (most unlikely) is back for sale with the same auction house. Perhaps the buyer was disappointed with it and is now trying to recoup the outlay. Good luck with that. https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/great-western-auctions-ltd/catalogue-id-srgreat10103...

Re: Joining forum problem

I also have a friend who is trying unsuccessfully to join. All goes well until he reaches the Verification Question which is blank. With no question he cannot proceed. He wonders whether his old Apple Mac computer system is the problem. His name is Adrian Tuddenham and his email address is liz@poppy...

Re: Edison C-150 for auction (Scottish Borders)

It could have been on an American transatlantic liner which was refitted in Britain. In those circumstances the unwanted fixtures and fittings were either sold to crew members or auctioned at the dockside. Most of the Victrolas I have seen over here have been for sale in or near a major seaport. Nee...

Re: Pathé Actuelle in Hebrew

Only yesterday I discovered that Rafael Ruwinsky was also an operatic tenor. This poster lists him in the role of Canio in a production of Pagliacci which appears to have taken place somewhere in Hungary in September 1921.
Whether this was before or after he became a cantor I do not know.

Re: That Expert Senior...

So pleased that it is now in the caring hands of a dedicated collector.
I had half expected it to reappear for sale by a dealer at more than double the price.
