Re: Edison Fireside Model B (Maybe??)

The tag looks like it has been there a long time - the bent over points have a very factory look about them. The serial number is way too low to be a Fireside model B. My lowest model B serial # on the list that I kept is well over 100,000. Your mechanism is probably from an Amberola VIII. I can’t r...

Re: Edison Phonograph, approximate value?

Wow. No love for the two minute only machines. I'll give you the counter point: I find I like playing 2 minute records more. For one thing, if somebody is visiting and getting a demonstration, I see them beginning to squirm at about 1 minute and 45 seconds. I find there are not many 4 minute cylinde...

Re: re-57 value?

The recording discs were "Pre-grooved" to guide the recording stylus. To record on one of these you will be limited to unused old stock. I'd probably be more interested in it as a player than a recorder.

Re: Thoughts on these two Edison Standard E horns

My take is that the Standard E was a way for Edison (and mail order retailers like Babson Bros.) to move increasingly stagnant stock. Straight horns by 1911 were quickly becoming a thing of the past. They sounded good but took up a lot of room. Many, if not all of these flowered horns were stripped ...

Re: Help With Stabilizing Rare Brown Wax Cylinder

Hi Doug. I've done a few "hail mary" repairs on my cylinders. They were nothing worth spending money on, but I did want to transfer. If you're OK with the whole thing possibly coming to pieces in your hands or damaging your stylus, then I'd say go for it. Get a pair of optivisors or other ...

Re: Tiz-It on Cygnet #10 Not Fitting Right - Edison Standard D with Diamond B

That's an early cygnet horn before they went to spring suspension. It would have been used with an angled carrier arm. I sure wouldn't alter that horn. Cool as as a Tiz-It looks, it'll leak air. A rubber connector will sound better and insulate the reproducer from "clanking" as the horn mo...

Re: WANTED: Celluloid Edison ICS Tag

Mike - with that serial number, a "National Phonograph" ICS tag would be the safer bet. Starting with the upper 700,000s there is an intermixing of both types of tags after that point until just before the very end. I’d bet that there was an overstock of the old tags and the new “Inc” tags...

Re: Edison Standard A Machines Without Shavers?

The ICS tag is different on the front of mine. It was not called the International Correspondence School. Initially, I wasn't aware of there being anything labelled "International Textbook Company" (or ITC). I had seen a few examples of "International Correspondence School" (or ...

Re: "KINEMUSIC " GRAMOPHONE RECORDING c1930

Many years ago I worked as a film editor in a Post Production facility. We had several different collections of sound effects and music that we would sometimes use for making promotional films or trailers. These records and tapes were very expensive. I suspect one of the main reasons for the expense...

Re: Edison Standard A Machines Without Shavers?

With that serial number, your New Style Model A probably had been shipped with a carrier arm with a shaver (or at least the boss for it). That serial number happened just after the lever lift gave way to the button lift. Looking at everything else, there is nothing to suggest that the carrier arm wa...
