Re: Unidentified Toy Gramophone

I'm 99% certain it is a "National Band". The photos show a similar shaped case and a complete machine with an identical metal motor board and a nasty pressed steel tonearm the same as yours. . Despite the very nationalistic British look of the machines, the paper label on the case says &qu...

Re: EMG Letter

I think we may have solved the mystery ! It would be interesting to know if the gramophone was damaged by bombing activity as I can't see how lead on a turntable could be damaged by normal usage ? Did a piece of masonry or shrapnel hit the soundbox and turntable ? but you would imagine the horn woul...

Re: EMG Letter

It's a theory, but surely EMG wouldn't refer to a governor weight as a "Turntable weight " ?

EMG Letter

Thought this was interesting - a letter from EMG to a customer who had had the diaphragm replaced in a soundbox for 7 and six right in the middle of the war , in March 1942. According to the internet, that would be about £18 today , so seems like a good deal ! Anyone know what the reference is to th...

Re: Ever Heard a Cigarette Box Talk?

I think it says something like "have a cigarette" or "take a cigarette". The records are almost always broken. Mine is missing the record altogether and I know of someone else who's has the usual cracked record. It will be very hard to find a replacement record but you might just...

Re: Tournaphone

Thanks for all the information. I thought it looked like a Thorens item and attach a picture of it next to my Thorens Helvetia. The case is the same size and has the same wood grained finish. The Thorens is a much more substantial machine though, with a heavy cast horn support and a good solid windi...

Tournaphone

Hi, Just bought a "Baby Tournaphone". Can't find anything about the company online. Brian Jewell's book "Veteran Talking Machines" just refers t it being a German Company and dates the Baby to 1906. Anyone have any more info about them ? Thanks
