Re: That Expert Senior...

So pleased that it is now in the caring hands of a dedicated collector. I had half expected it to reappear for sale by a dealer at more than double the price. Yes, I did too. We both know which of two potential dealers we're probably thinking about as well. Neither would have lifted a finger to eve...

Re: Another large Apollo on UK eBay.

This sums up the state of British gramophone collecting. If I was there I would have bought it immediately. The horn in there must be quite something. The walnut veneer alone is worth the asking price. Someone please go get it. I agree but i believe its always been the same here? There are far too ...

Re: Another large Apollo on UK eBay.

Okay, so if I shuffle things around again and take out my kitchen and bathroom, I might be able to make some space for this! I could have stereo Apollos or maybe a non matching pair. It certainly looks impressive enough and I like the style but I notice it doesn't say "Deep Tone Resonator...

Re: EMG Cheltenham

I understand your point, Roger, that difficult auction conditions and terms will usually translate into low prices achieved but with something as uncommon as an EMG or Expert I'd expect people to be jumping through hoops of fire to get them. Also, we very recently saw a world record price for an EMG...

Re: EMG Cheltenham

Count me as another flabbergasted onlooker. Had I known it was likely to fall well below £5-7000, I would have bid on it as well to competently sell on in the near future. Like Graham I already own a fantastic condition example of this very model. My example and IIRC Graham's too are both better tha...

Re: Edison Bell portable

Crikey, Roger, I like that portable you had. I'd buy one of those in a flash but they are quite uncommon and I can't even recall ever seeing one. There was a fairly basic EB portable on Ebay close to me recently. I submitted an offer but it sold for the asking price in under 6 hours! They must be in...

Re: Playing to the carpet.

None of that should be necessary. Anyone with ears and the opportunity to compare both side by side will tell you its due to superior acoustic reproduction and not simply the height of the horn. I'm not saying the height doesn't help but if you put an EMG on the floor and sit in an elevated position...

Re: Apollo Super 9

Thank you to everyone first of all for all the kind and positive feedback regarding my first foray into filming! Just to follow up on a few comments I'd wish to add that the novel record compartment is so positioned to optimise the use of space at the rear of the cabinet just above the first bend in...
