Re: Stuck Springs

About the rubber tubing, why don't you like the silicon stuff , what is it about the natural rubber that is better ? I honestly don't know specifically Jeff (despite having been a rubber technologist in a former life!) other than that it sounds better to my ears, and I know other enthusiasts who fi...

Re: Stuck Springs

NOT graphite ~ the particle size is too large. Has it been done wrong for the past 120+ years? If using graphite, what grade, purity, particle size? Use any old powdered graphite? What was the original specification? I seriously doubt whether it's still available, as there are far less varied appli...

Re: The MAL sharpener

Interesting! I heartily respect everyone's views, and of course it's true, the thumbscrew on the MAL (just like a soundbox needle screw) means that the needle point can be slightly off-centre, especially with fine diameter thorns. But I have never found this to be a problem, nor of any detriment to ...

Re: Duruflé organ music

Great record, Andy! Did you try to play it also on any of your EMGs? Does it sound good? Yes! It's exciting on an EMG, but not as satisfying as on the hi-fi - no surprise, given that the sound of an organ with lots of stops drawn is an extremely complex mixture of frequencies. Amazingly, the 32ft t...

Re: Vertical-horned EMG.

What a great card someone gave you Alex! :D Obviously a composite of various photos from elsewhere - I'm thinking the image of the vertical-ish EMG could even have been from the auction in Canterbury where the current owner bought the one discussed in this thread, 10 years ago or more - I can kind o...

Re: Duruflé organ music

Here's my two disc set of Fernando Germani in 1952 playing Mozart'a Fantasia in F minor on a ferociously loud English organ. You'll never hear a performance like this nowadays! (Or just possibly up Cameron Carpenter's street?) Enjoy - those as do!

Re: Oh, an early Edison Phonograph Chip Shaver Brush ?

Agreed, just an ordinary everyday dusting brush of the period, nothing to do with records, even though I've had one or two turn up with gramophones in the past.
