Re: Info about dark finish Victrola Key

Hi Bob, Good to see you posting here again! It would be nice to see a photo of this key next to one or more of your gold Victor keys for comparison. From the photos you posted, it looks to be a gold key with a lot of the plating worn away --- but you seem to indicate that is not the case. Below are ...

Re: Odd OKEH Records

Hi Tim, Nice find, and intriguing to get that many all at once. These sound like they possibly could be test pressings --- please don't write anything on those labels. I have one on OkeH and several more on Columbia w/o titles or artist information. A well known record auctioneer told me mine were t...

Re: Opinions Wanted: What to do about decal?

I’ve seen a very nice, all original VV-XXV (Victor Schoolhouse) and a gorgeous, all original Vernis Martin Victrola (sorry, I don’t remember which model) both sporting upside down decals in their respective lids. In both cases, I thought this interesting quirk added a lot to the story and history of...

Re: Sound Box Help

Your xvi carries a Victor Concert? That soundbox is earlier than that model, maybe someone substituted it, for I believe xvis always carried an exhibition reproducer, and later models, a Víctor no2. According to an original Victor machine catalog (dated 8/13/12) I have, customers had their choice o...

Re: Victor silver pull record binders

The first style of VV-XIVs couldn’t accommodate any albums! The record storage area of those machines had one row of 20 numbered, narrow spaces (each about 1” wide) separated by thin wooden slats. And come to think of it, all metal parts were gold plated on those machines.

Re: Victor silver pull record binders

I would imagine albums with nickel pulls would be used only on machines equipped with nickel hardware. I put a set of five 12” albums (A-E) with nickel pulls on the shelf of my Queen Anne / Spider-leg VV-X. Would nickel pull albums also be used on the second style of VV-XIVs (after the Queen Anne st...

Re: Sonora baby grand Indiana

Hi Bob and John, Even though the item up for sale in the Facebook Marketplace listing is said to be a Sonora Baby Grand, the damaged machine is in fact a Sonora Invincible (one step down in Sonora’s “bulged” offerings from the top-of-the-line Sonora Supreme). The first pic in the listing shows a nic...

Re: Multi-Colored, Splattered-Shellac 78rpm Records

Hi AudioFeline, You mentioned not seeing records like these in your country. Coincidentally, the Paramount record I pictured in my June 23, 2020 post was repatriated from Australia back to Wisconsin in the U.S.A. where it was manufactured. I breathed a huge sigh of relief when the package containing...

Re: Polly Phonograph Portable Needle Packet

Here’s my needle packet with Polly facing the same direction as yours. I hadn’t noticed the difference from the machine decal graphic until you pointed it out. Strange!
