Re: Which Pathé open horn machines have strong motors?

I'm sure you noticed that this machine comes with a reproducer for lateral records which is not aligned with the spindle. Normally, the Pathé A has a Pathé Concert reproducer for hill and dale records. Of course, it's possible to use a shorter adapter to mount a needle reproducer aligned with the s...

Re: Which Pathé open horn machines have strong motors?

Packing and shipping such a gramophone is quite a challenge as the gramophone is very heavy and, furthermore, the horn is well over the Post Office size limits. So, the only solution would be to rely on a private shipping company. Recently, I bought some items in an auction; as it was far away from...

Re: Silvertone ID (possibly XI 1918?) and general advice

That needle cup where the to tonearm is located is actually the used needle cup and should have the lid on top. I have a Grafonola that has the exact same needle cup arrangement. I believe the sound box may need to be turned a bit on the to tonearm so the needle sits in the proper 60 degree angle t...

Re: Which Pathé open horn machines have strong motors?

... Drh : Although the cost for overseas shipping will be awful, I can relay your questions to the seller if it helps. Thank you! Outside matters of language, the big problem is that (at least as rendered by Google translate) the seller specifies local pickup only. Do you know, is there any service...

Re: Which Pathé open horn machines have strong motors?

That Concert Modele A is an absolute steal at the price. It's exactly the machine I've been looking for, but unfortunately practical/logistical issues (seller states he won't ship, I live across the Atlantic, and my lack of French means I have no chance of discussing anything with him) mean it will...

Re: Which Pathé open horn machines have strong motors?

Do the numbered open horn machines (among which I would not count the diffusor) follow a similar approach to Victor's, with higher numbers equating to more powerful motors? Knowing Pathé, I wouldn't expect that to be a given! As you guessed, the answer is no... or more or less. From the samples in ...

Re: Finding Victor Records

Ever since I started collecting almost 50 years ago (!), I've encountered people who thought their pile of old Henry Burr records would finance their next vacation in Bermuda. It just seems to go with the territory. As to not seeing pre-electric Victors all that often, they *used* to be plentiful, b...

Re: Silvertone ID (possibly XI 1918?) and general advice

Welcome, and congratulations on quite a nice machine! You shouldn't need to replace the reproducer, just the rubber gaskets. Rebuilding reproducers is a routine maintenance item for "new-old" machines, and any number of folks here on the forum can do it at modest cost, or you can learn how...

I stand corrected--when I zoomed in on the second photo, I can indeed see oak grain, buried/obscured under more "antiquing" mess. So the original decal is toast, too.
