Re: WANTED: Pageless storage Albums

As I have recounted in a thread in "Machines" (https://forum.talkingmachine.info/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=50732), I have now learned these albums date to the 1950s and were sold by a company called H. Royer Smith of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as storage for LPs. Nonetheless, the 12" s...

Re: I just took delivery of some serious record storage

Last night I learned something more about these albums--they date to the 1950s and were sold by a company called H. Royer Smith of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as storage for LPs. Further snooping around on the web revealed H.R.S. operated a record store there for several decades and also published r...

Re: FOR SALE: Pathé COQUET CYLINDER PHONOGRAPH MINT

Good morning phonohound and drh. I have retrieved my machine and fitted a salon mandrel and cylinder(cylinders shrink so do not always fit correctly on mandrel) and adjusted the reproducer sleeve and screw to make sure the stylus hits the cylinder at right angles..I cannot play as my reproducer is ...

Re: FOR SALE: Pathé COQUET CYLINDER PHONOGRAPH MINT

Great questions. I tested it with a salon mandrel. It fits but the configuration won't work. Pathé made this model in several configurations, including one sold through the French firm Girard that used the Systeme Verite attachment which allowed easy switching between the two formats. This phonogra...

Re: FOR SALE: Pathé COQUET CYLINDER PHONOGRAPH MINT

Will it play the salon sized cylinders if outfitted with the appropriate mandrel sleeve? Also, any chance we could have a photo of the motor, and how strong is it? Since the video cuts out mid-cylinder, how many full cylinders can it play at speed on a winding? Thanks!

Re: record sales data?

Any clue where I can find Victor and Columbia sales data? P I dimly recall there was a book years back that claimed to document all the records that had gone "gold" or charted in the top 10 or some such from the then-present day back into the acoustic era. I mention it more as a cautionar...

Re: Horn gramophones to identify and discuss

...The Gramophone, August 1925 reported on a competion which included a Mead model 505 :- https://reader.exacteditions.com/issues/33622/page/18 ... Thank you for posting that one. It's from a lengthy account of the 1925 Gramophone Congress hosted by The Gramophone magazine, and on a skim I see it's...

I'll bet you didn't know HMV made the Edison Opera disc player, did you?

I just stumbled across this highly accurate, informative eBay listing: This is a replica version of the 1911 Edison Opera Phonograph, it is among the most desirable of all the Edison models. From the early 20th century, the Opera received a unique, extra steady motor and a traversing mandrel mechani...

Re: WANTED: transportation--Randolph, OH to Washington, DC area

Bumpus maximus--still need help moving that machine from there to here. Anyone?

Incidentally, just to be clear, as long as the machine comes to within a day's round trip from here, I am happy to meet up. While I certainly wouldn't object to it, door-to-door isn't necessary, in other words.
