Reconstruction of Disc from Image - A Don Wilson Project

Friends, Most of you already know about my reproduction discs, until now virtually all of these discs were loaned from collectors to be copied, but the 5" Berliner in the below picture is very different; a physical copy of this disc has not existed for 130 years. It was an experimental recordin...

Re: How Do Folks Come Up With Prices For Records?

The thrill of the hunt is not an experience that can be enjoyed on eBay. I know of at least two people who in the past ~2 years bought 5" Berliners for very little money because the seller had no idea what they were. In the past year, someone sold me an only-known-copy of an Edison advertising...

Re: WANTED: Berliner "Stars and Stripes Forever" Matrix 61

I have molds of numerous Sousa Berliners, including 61 V "Stars and Stripes". I also have the mother for 23 ZZ "Directorate March".

In addition to my reproductions, I do have a number of original Berliners which I'll soon be selling (~20).

It's an excellent record, not a valuable one :D
IIRC, I picked up a "spare" copy at the Wayne show for ~$20.

Re: Single sided etched records - how was this done ?

Artwork could have been added by lithograph or engraving and electrotype. These technologies were very common and well developed by the 1890's. In short, an artist could have drawn the design onto paper and the used a 3D pantograph to carve the design into wax. The wax carving would be powdered with...

Tom,
I may have an extra copy that I'd be willing to part with. I'll have to look for it, if you don't hear from me in a few days then you might send me a reminder.

Re: Too bad more young people are not interested

I've had decent luck in showing up at music festivals (electronic dance music) with wind-ups and a few crates of 78's. My demonstrations and workshops reliably draw good sized crowds and people are genuinely interested in learning about the music and technology. 2020 was such that the events were ve...

Generally speaking, you swap the red and green wires.

Re: Best Technique to Capture Groove Music from Diamond Discs

donniej, How did you choose the "saddle shape" for the stylus ? Marc As the beginning of the video mentions, I used the inverted groove of an early electrically-recorded Victor to create a saw blade with the Victor's exact dimensions. I also made one for a Diamond Disc but the "saddl...
