Re: Black Patti - Hightower Nighthawks

I have to say this... I don't know if someone feels like me... I love pristine copies of 78s, sounding well, etc. But these worn copies, as the examples shared by Roaring20s of this rare record, have a special charm to me. In a certain way, I also like to listen to worn 78s with stressed grooves, an...

Re: FOR SALE: New Exhibition Rubber Gasket Tubing $1.50/ft

If the rubber backs are really softer than the neoprene-like ones we're used to see in the current market, reserve 4 backs for me, and some tubing for overhauling 3 exhibitions plus a reserve for any case...

Re: HMV dark blue 101 white marks

Cleaning with some diluted vinegar (to kill mold) then repainting with a good shoe cream matching the color... But I'm afraid this is risky, irreversible, and if it doesn't match well, it is an added problem. If the record tray is molded also at the back unseen side, - - - the lower square log is us...

Nice arrangement! What a fine work!
I never heard before of that Watt linkage... It's like a kind of pantographic device!

There is the His Master's Gramophone, known in the forum as HMG. For portables, there is Dave Cooper's The Perfect Portable. Both are out of print, but can be acquired second hand when they're available.

Alastair, big hurrahs for you and for Adrian! We're eager to see your progress, and to watch and hear your tests! Don't dismay even if the first sounds you get are not as expected... This machine, as did the commercial ones, will need fine adjustments and tuning, but we're sure you'll finally get an...

Re: Little Thorens Gramophone

MHO... volume is adequate, but freq response is severely curtailed, both in the treble and the bass. A good, thin and stiff mica diaphragm with supple gaskets gives a much better and clearer sound. You're also aware of this, and my observations don't have the intention of make you disappointed, abso...
