I think the more of them you do, the more weird stuff you will see. The worst thing I have ever seen was a spring that was broken at the inner coil. The previous repairer poured molten lead into the center coil to fuse the broken spring.

How well does it fit? I think that those feed screws use a different thread shape. I am sure someone like Jerry Van can comment more intelligently.

Wow! That was fun to watch! I held my breath each time he bent a tab to disassemble something. I found it interesting that he did not put the same level of care into the restoration of the motor. By not disassembling it, he left a lot of gunk in the bearings and pivots which will only accelerate the...

While at first glance the motors appear to be identical, they are not. The bull gear and it's mating pinion are different on the two motors. The whole motor will interchange, but not all the gears from motor to motor. I hope I made sense!

An alcohol based aniline dye will. I've done it and found it best to mix up the dye first and add it to the stain. I have also used non-grain raising Behlen's dye mixed in shellac and lacquer.

Maybe you already know this, but that sort of handle is readily available from companies that supply the antique trunk restoration crowd. A google search should help you find it. But, if your plan was to have all the fun of making your own, go for it and ignore this.
