Re: Tracking Weight of acoustic gramophones.
Greg Bogantz makes the following point on another thread which I think informs the conversation here. I would be cautious of using too little tracking force. ......Using too little force will result in the needle not being able to stay in contact with the accelerations of the groove wall during high...

Re: Too bad more young people are not interested
What interested me in phonographs when I was 16 was the "time machine" aspect of the machines and the music The gramophone has helped me to develop a greater appreciation for much of the music of bygone times that I might not have appreciated or even listened to before now. Like you Curt,...

Re: Tracking Weight of acoustic gramophones.
If you could please discuss briefly the differences in diaphragm materials. If you have not already done so. I think you did talk about this in a previous post Any previous discussion was not mine. Forgive me if in re-stating the obvious. That might have been me ;) I too have been experimenting wit...

Re: Tracking Weight of acoustic gramophones.
Some have plastic diaphragms, some painted paper, some aluminium and some titanium. The different materials result in considerable variation in frequency response and volume. If you could please discuss briefly the differences in diaphragm materials. If you have not already done so. I think you did...

Re: Tracking Weight of acoustic gramophones.
Unfortunately I do not have a scale that reaches such high weights, I only have one made for modern turntables with 10 grams as upper limit. This is the one I am using. https://www.ebay.ie/itm/0-01g-x-200g-Gram-Mini-Digital-Pocket-lighter-Scale-Jewelry-Diamond-Weight/312773377404?ssPageName=STRK%3A...

Re: Tracking Weight of acoustic gramophones.
When you measure soundbox weight do you measure on or off the tonearm? I don't measure it directly, what I do is to add the counterweight and play a record, and adjust the counterweight force until I get a satisfactory play, without jumping or distortion. I'd love if you could measure the weight ev...

Re: Tracking Weight of acoustic gramophones.
When you measure soundbox weight do you measure on or off the tonearm? When the counterweight is a spring, I adjust the force by changing the length of the wire that ties the spring to the arm. Instead of a counterweight I use a spring which takes some of the weight from the soundbox. About 25 gram...

Re: Tracking Weight of acoustic gramophones.
When you measure soundbox weight do you measure on or off the tonearm? If you really care about stylus pressure, then on the tone arm, which then also includes the weight of the tone arm, (or u-tube), as well. I'm interested in the combined weight so all the measurements above are with the soundbox...
