Re: Edison Fireside Model B (Maybe??)

Would the serial number provide a clue as to if the bedplate and motor came from an Amberola VIII?

Re: Edison Fireside Model B (Maybe??)

In photos I've seen of Amberola VIIIs, there are screws in the front corners to hold the bedplate down. Is it hinged in the back corners like the Fireside?

Re: Edison Fireside Model B (Maybe??)

Frow & Sefl's book, as well as Frow's "Companion" book both state the Amberola III (not Fireside) used the same motor and works as the Opera. I think that's the question. How did an Amberola tag wind up on a Fireside machine?

Re: The Carter Family

I've run across several over the years. Conqueror was an ARC label, but it's been my experience that the Carter Family records on that label are later reissues from earlier releases (ie: Melotone). Re: More Help

My guess is it was made that way to allow the mainspring to be removed without removing the entire motor from the top board?

Re: More Help

I don't own a 1-5, in fact, I've never seen one. However, after doing some reading in "The Victor Data Book", it would seem that models 1-1 thru 1-6 may likely have used the same motor. I do own a 1-1, and on mine the screw you're referring to holds the spring barrel arbor in place. There'...

Re: Victor "scissor" brake

I agree. There seems to be very little info out there regarding the "scissor" brake. I can say this. I own two VV-IV Type M machines, and until recently a Type A, as well as two VV-VIII Type A machines. They all have the "scissor" brake, and are circa 1911-12.
