Re: EMG Cheltenham

Also, we very recently saw a world record price for an EMG achieved. Was that simply down to an accommodating auctioneer? My guess is that the high price of that EMG some weeks ago scared away the potential buyers of this one. After this latest bargain, all will feel empowered and hopeful to bid on...

Re: Playing to the carpet.

The height of the horn does matter - insofar as it can make it more inconvenient to get your ears on axis with the horn. Evidently horns are extremely directional. There is significant loss as the sound wave propagates away from its center axis, both in volume and frequency response. My comment ref...

Re: Playing to the carpet.

None of that would be necessary. Anyone with ears will tell you its due to superior acoustic reproduction and not the height of the horn. I'm not saying the height doesn't help but if you put an EMG on the floor and sit in elevated position level with it you will still hear the same superior sound....

Re: Apollo Super 9

Very nice machine and video! It looks new and sounds great, is it the original soundbox? As I posted on the You Tube video, it is the first machine I see with the record container placed in the back of the machine, quite unique.

Re: Apollo Super 9

Very interesting machine, Steve! it shows that there is much more to look for beyond HMVs and Experts. It would be nice if you could post a video of it in action.

Re: Very Unique Ultraphon on FB Marketplace Pittsburg

But it is missing the second tonearm and soundbox... As Iñigo points out, the most interesting of these Vox/Ultraphon machines is the two-arm setup, which this one is unfortunately missing. I presume this machine is rare in the US, but not so in Germany, where it shows up every now and then. I have...

Re: Reconstruction of Disc from Image - A Don Wilson Project

Indeed excellent work, congatulatons! it is on a par with the Au Clair de la Lune recovery done by the French (that Iñigo referred), which turned out to be the first record of human voice ever done (that is, until someone finds some earlier pioneer).

Re: Rare 1906 Pathé Disc on eBay

These are great display pieces with the red rooster print. It is one of the first examples of laminated records, however none of these surviving examples are playable, due to the thermal incompatibility between the base material and the recorded layer. The recorded layer cracked within one year of i...
