Re: The "Acoustiphone"

Love the font for the Acoustiphone.
I wonder if the Superphone is the one made by Henry Seymour and what about the Kappaphone? Anyone seen one before?

Re: Victrola Consolette

I bought one of these about 10 years ago in the UK. It apparently came to the UK via Mexico.
Lovely little machine. My kids had it in their bedroom for years.
Does anyone know how many of these were made and can they be dated from the serial number?.

Re: Free dictaphones for collection in UK

How odd that these should turn up now. Not something I would normally buy. I've just got back from holiday in the gold rush city of Bendigo. An hour NW of Melbourne. Gold was discovered here in 1850 and the wealth filled the fine street of the city. Great place to find gramophone, I thought. Sure en...

Re: Expert 2-Spring soundbox on UK eBay.

Yes, my both two-spring EMGinn Expert soundboxes have aluminum triangular needle sockets like the one on ebay, if I understand what you mean.
Here are the two chucks. I have only ever seen the first one. Are you saying your two 2-spring Expert soundboxes have the second chuck?.

Re: Expert Audio-Player for auction in UK.

The Audio Player really is a bit of a paradox. It breaks all EXPERT scientific norms and really does not belong in the EXPERT family. At least the bifurcated Columbia horn has some length to it. The only thing I can compare the carcase and pedestal to is the early EMG DR series of electric reproduce...

Re: Nom-Y-Ka diaphragms

Here's an advert for the Jewel soundbox. The radio part looks like fun. The diaphragms look like a celluloid rather than laminated silk. It would be good to find out exactly what it is. Talking-Machine-1925-02-OCR-Page-0141-1.jpg EMG used the Luxus and Jewel soundboxes during The Gramophone tests of...

Re: EMG Flyers

You may find Ian Maxted's really excellent and highly successful methods of soundbox tuning of assistance---posted here on 13th September 2015. viewtopic.php?f=11&t=22907&hilit=soundb ... g&start=40 Totally agree, an excellent way to get any soundbox to a neutral state before tuning it....

Re: EMG Flyers

Chunny, regarding the previous photo of the pedestal model, I would suspect from a structural point of view, if the legs were tall, the vertical grain would extend up into the frame at the corners. I cannot quite make out from the picture if this is the case. Very good point, the grain on the walnu...

Re: EMG Flyers

Oh!, and for added confusion here is another flyer courtesy of Rod Cornelius.
42 and 46mm indeed. (Metric not Imperial?). Is the 46mm possibly referring to something like an Astra soundbox? The price difference is huge, could that be 2 and 4-spring for each diameter?
