Re: Columbia Vivatonal 711 question

I have the 800 Viva Tonal and I had the motor worked on, its a three spring as well. For some reason as you mentioned the springs are rather small for a large machine and on mine you won't get more than one play of a 12" record. Maybe two 10", but I doubt it. Beware that the motors are qui...

Re: Early Eddie Duchin Orchestra

I admit I am guessing, but from what I hear on the records of the late 20's and then 30's, you can tell the longer they were perfecting the recording techniques the fuller the music becomes.

Re: Early Eddie Duchin Orchestra

I had an 810 many years ago and loved it, but at the time the Credenza won due to space and ability to move it around, where as the Columbia's are like dead weight heavy. However I agree that in comparison to the Victor the Columbia has a slight difference that I like. I remember reading some critic...

Early Eddie Duchin Orchestra

I always liked piano so I collected some later 78 sets of Duchin's. But with the Columbia 800 I started to see what his early records were like. Instead of almost exclusively piano with maybe a bit of rhythm backing it up the earlier period has more orchestra, vocals and usually a piano interlude. I...

Re: Phonographs in Movies...

Of Human Bondage 1934 Betty Davis.. This might be in here already and if it is I am sorry, but going though all those post takes a lot of time. We watched this "Of Human Bondage" tonight, a very old film and Davis can't be much more than 20 or so in it. She acts overly dramatic, but none t...

Re: FREE: Columbia 12” Cast Iron Turntable $0.00

I looked at mine today and its not the same design so far as the part that holds the shaft, plus then mine is a fairly decent gold finish still on the edges. I hope someone needs it, it was good of you to let me know about it.

Re: FREE: Columbia 12” Cast Iron Turntable $0.00

I appreciate your offer. I think though its a different design. From my recall I think mine has a raised metal on the bottom that would hold it higher off the shaff. I will check it out though and let you know. I have to be gone this morning and the phonograph is at my moms home so I can't answer yo...

Re: Probability of sourcing Columbia parts?

I saw one at an auction about 20 years ago and that was the only one I ever saw. It was a real nice cabinet.. They had a brunswick console also but decided not to sell the columbia. I hace wanted one ever since but not seen another.

Columbia 800, Turntable needed.

My 800 model Columbia Viva Tonal record players turn table was evidently drilled off center from the back side. The tapered opening on the rear is obviously more to one side than the other and it causes the records to move up and down noticeably especially on 12" records. I wonder if any of you...

Re: Rebuilt Diamond Disc Reproducer Trouble

I have had any number of replacement diaphragms before I came up with my own True Tone.. They buzzed regardless of gaskets, or other factors, they simply didn't respond well to the records and as was pointed out sometimes were worse than what I had before I replaced it. I am sure there are quite a f...
