Re: Duruflé organ music

Don't forget Buxtehude; I love his organ music, too. As to Durufle, you may want to watch out for an LP, Anthologie Sonore AS-34, on which the man plays organ, not his own music but the following (copied from my computer catalogue): Mozart: Benedicite Angeli, K. 342. Soloists, Chorus, and Or. of L'A...

Re: Edison diamond stylus, Not right.. I think

I would DEFINITELY not be using that until it comes back from Wyatt. It looks like a steel needle  David ...stuck on with super glue and broken off at the tip, at that. And that stylus bar doesn't look right, either. Someone did something very, very bad to that poor reproducer. I shudd...

I was holding the reproducer in my hand, so not an ideal way of tracking the groove.

That did sound great, but all I can say is, your hands are much steadier than mine!

Re: Edison suitcase Standard (Edison Bell) - advice please!

I agree, the belt probably is part of the problem, but it probably isn't everything. I'd guess the motor needs a good cleaning and lubrication as well. Since it's running too slow, it also needs adjustment; David's right, the governor is likely off, although he got it the wrong way 'round, since you...

Re: Diamond Disc playing on a gramophone

It's it possible to adapt a DD reproducer to the tonearm of a standard gramophone (hmv, Victor, Columbia... ) with an elbow or something, to play DDs? How would it play on a Credenza, for instance? Has someone ever tried that? A drawback is that the groove would have to move the tonearm, but a care...

Re: Value of amberol cylinders

...and in turn I'll add a bit to the good advice James just offered: if you are looking at eBay to get prices, go to "advanced search" and look at prices realized for listings that actually sold. Don't go by prices in active, unsold listings. People will ask anything and everything for ope...

Re: Value of amberol cylinders

I’m looking at buying more amberol cylinders and I see asking prices all over the map, usually with no listing of titles. Chances are there will be a lot of overlap with my current collection. How do I determine a fair price given I might want to resell some? Any guidance would be appreciated. Aski...

Re: Newest addition: Brunswick Pr 148-C

... When those are first turned on, they get a jolt of electricity through the system that takes a few moments for the ballast tube the catch and settle down. And line voltage is higher now than it generally was in the 20's. I've run mine with the ballast tube and after about ½ hour or so the cabin...

Re: Does this Pathé need a special needle ?

I would hesitate to play a Pathé vertical disc on an acoustic machine with anything except a sapphire ball stylus. If you do plunge ahead with a wooden needle, stand right by the machine while you play it and be ready to grab the reproducer if it takes off skating across the record surface. If it do...
