Gradual improvements

Post by MordEth »

 1. You may notice there is now a lock next to the forum address in your browser. We finally have https; your connection to the site is now encrypted.
 2. The domain is renewed for 5 more years and hosting is paid in advance for another year.
 3. I added a Patron group to the forum to thank anyone who has supported the site with a donation. Right now it only changes the color of your user name; I may add other perks later to thank you. If you used a different e-mail with PayPal than you used to register for the forum and would like to be in the Patron group, send me a private message. If you would rather not show off your support, go to User Groups and click on the radio button in front of Registered Users, then click on the “Change default group” button.
That screen looks like this:

I still need to:
 1. Migrate the server software to the current version. Most likely this will have to be done in stages and I will want to plan out when this will happen as I will have to temporarily disable the forum. I’ll keep you posted on when this will happen.
 2. Redo the new themes to look like the board does now for everyone using the “anachronist” (default theme). If the page background is green, this is the theme you’re using. (Note: this will be time-consuming; do not expect this to be quick.)
I’ll keep you informed here with progress.

David

John had made it a long time ago as a moderator group below the global moderators. It has a couple of members, but I don’t think any of them are really doing much in the way of moderation.

I don’t care much about the color on my name, but I don’t like to appear to be a person that doesn’t step up either, as the color of my name would indicate. It may be a perk to have your name in blue, but I feel that it has a negative affect of shaming others, (I don’t like shaming). It really isn’t such a good time to be soliciting contributions with holidays and charity donations already accounting for a lot of disposable income.

I did contribute and my email address is the same as my PayPal. It’s not worth worrying about, but for the record, please don’t assume that if the name isn’t blue that the member didn’t contribute. I would always prefer for my donations to be anonymous, but that is just me. Not being blue makes me conspicuous, which I don’t enjoy.

I have noticed the site is definitely working much better and rarely if ever now goes down or gives the 500 errors.

Is anyone else not getting email notices that they have a private message? Many times I don't sign in for several days and when I do there are numerous messages from different days that I never got a email notice on. Maybe a glitch in the system that needs attention?

I get emails from PMs every time. Check your profile and ensure your email address entered there is correct.

I used to get email notifications, but not as of late. I haven't changed any personal info but did check and it is correct.

Mike,

Have you checked your spam/junk folder?

Hey David,

Yes I checked and nothing. There was a time about a year ago it did the same thing. A few others mentioned it also. But it seemed to correct itself. Now it's doing it again. I haven't changed any of my settings so I'm not sure what to tell you. I can just log in once a day and I wouldn't miss much I suppose.

Mike
