I have about 15 years of experience with phpBB (and Simple Machines, Invision, etc.) and I’m also a network engineer, so the issues here are not a mystery to me. I was given admin access to the forum only, and cannot perform a database backup or access any of the backend config. At one time I wrote a script to crawl the entire forum and and archive it page by page, but the host was not stable enough for it to complete even 1/100th of it without failing.
