I hit contact, write message, hit submit, and useless----time wasted.

What happens after you hit Submit? It seems to take a few minutes to actually send. Check back later at your sent messages and I think you'll see progress.

What happens is, once you click on Submit, the message will appear in your Outbox. It will stay there until the person you sent it to logs on and opens the message. At that point, it will be placed into your Sent Messages folder.
