Ha ha !!!
I love the bizarre 'trade mark' picture too !
Do you know anything about this gramophone I wonder ? Seems like it may have an interesting history ?
(Is there some-thing on the motor-board . top left ?).

It's just a name that can't be registered because there are 100's of last names in the UK phone book of Mr. Royce or Mr. Rolls.

Only the automatic brake, and the needle pot with the lid laying below it.poodling around wrote: Sun Sep 24, 2023 2:42 pm

In about 1916 Rolls-Royce brought an action against the makers of the Sizaire-Berwick car for using a Rolls-Royce style radiator.JeffR1 wrote: Sun Sep 24, 2023 4:53 pm It's just a name that can't be registered because there are 100's of last names in the UK phone book of Mr. Royce or Mr. Rolls.
This resulted in an out of court settlement in favour of Sizaire-Berwick for £25,000, a large sum in 1916, as they had taken the precaution of registering the design whilst Rolls-Royce had not!

Re: Rolls-Royce lawyers missed this one?
I had to smile when this portable came my way yesterday. I of course remembered the logo/name found on the red Rolls Voice seen here on the forum, a name I had never seen it before, and then out of nowhere yesterday this portable ended here. I bought 25 records and the owner asked if I also wanted the portable. We can see it is a slightly different version, with no auto brake, and the rest position of the winding handle is different. It has a Thorens motor, and the sound box is named Olympia Rex, and we all can see where it received its "inspiration"...
Someone will surely recognize the crown at the bottom, it says Import..so is it a (UK) Goldring?

Your soundbox resembles the Goldring Electro, badged as a Caruso, fitted to my Caruso portable.
You kindly assisted me with having it shipped from Sweden to the UK.
At some time in antiquity a repairer refitted the backplate upside down, and the picture shows this before I rectified it.
