Hi All,
Its been a while since I've posted to the forum, much has been happening. I was married in 2013 and in July my wife Bronwyn and I were lucky enough to become parents to a healthy baby boy, Matthew, who already looks like he'll end up with a collecting bug of some forum. For various reasons none of which I will bore you with, collecting went on to the back burner and I have even let go of a number of my machines, keeping only those that I value the most. I'm still always on the look out for something special and was lucky enough to come across this HMV Chippendale a couple of years ago now. The upper motor board and works were missing but the hardware is standard for HMVs of the period. I was wondering if anyone has seen a HMV Chippendale in the flesh before? I am trying to ascertain how many might be around.
Warmest Regards,
Mario

Hello Mario, welcome back. I cannot help you with your Chippendale, but wanted to congratulate you to your new wife and baby. Regardless how great our machines are, building a family brings more joy than anything else.

Re: HMV Chippendale Gramophone & Hello Again
An empty Chippendale cabinet appeared on UK eBay recently, and I posted the details in the eBay section of the forum. It sold very quickly, which must have pleased the seller who was unaware of it's true identity.
The Sheraton Gramophone Grand outsold the Chippendale when new, and the percentage survival rate of the Chippendale appears to be even lower than that of the Sheraton. To my eye the Sheraton is the better looking cabinet.
My collecting also went onto the back burner when I became a father over 40 years ago, and only really took off again when I was fortunate enough to be offered early retirement on terms too good to refuse.

The Chippendale cabinet does look a little crammed- if they had avoided those paired oval medallions and put some reeded detail on the corners it might have been better.epigramophone wrote:An empty Chippendale cabinet appeared on UK eBay recently, and I posted the details in the eBay section of the forum. From the photo in the HMV book of Oakley and Proudfoot I derived that the Chippendale was much darker, almost black. But the example recently on ebay and now Mario's tell a different story.
Mario, welcome back. I tried to contact you for a while. Can you please check the serial number at the underside of your "Melba." What is this number, and is it preceded by the sequence of letters "DGAG"? You can answer my question in the Melba thread.

Hi All,
I recently acquired 100% original and untouched example of this rare model for my collection (I'll share pics soon) but as such I am passing on this example for someone wanting to complete the project!

Ps. I'd consider item/s for trade!
