100% genuine?

Post by fonografica »

This machine is sold as a 100% original Parlophone gramophone.
Any experts out there notice anything wrong on the machine? thanks in advance.

I'm by no means an expert, so maybe I'm completely wrong, but the bracket looks a lot like the one you see on those Indian Crap-O-Phones. So perhaps this is a Frankenphone?

Thats one of my concerns regarding this machine, the back bracket and the misalignment of the reproducer to the turntable's centre.

Back bracket looks fine to me, it's a common European type.
The repro ones don't tend to b.e cross drilled for the locking screw

That back bracket is perfectly genuine - the crapophone ones are copies of the same style.

Looks like an excellent example.

Far from being a defect, when the arm has no offset (and this arm doesn't have any) it's somewhat better if the needle falls a bit short from the spindle.

In other words it has a negative overhang.

Looks authentic to me, but if you can check the motor and get a photo of the motor board without the turntable it will help to verify the authenticity.

I finally bought the gramophone which is indeed 100% genuine and has never been restored or refurbished. All it needed was a bit of cleaning and polishing. I am the leaving the horn as it is
with some paint wear. Watch it playing on this video. Regards
