HMV 113 Variations ?

Post by Gramtastic »

Hi, I am currently restoring an HMV113 which is in a Mahogany colour - all the books refer to them being made of teak and I have found pictures of some which are Teak coloured so my question is, are they all made of teak and were some just stained to look like mahogany, or were some made in Mahogany ?

I have two of these, both have a dark brown color which does not resemble neither teak (which is lighter) nor mahogany (more reddish). The inner part of the horn door is a little lighter, but also difficult to identify. I am not an expert in woods, as you can infer from my comment...

They were all made from teak but finished to a darker reddish brown colour which fades over time.

Thanks Steve. I am not 100% convinced as mine is a uniform mahogany colour and the photos of the teak coloured ones also show a uniform colour all over - I would have expected the teak ones to be darker on the inside where the light hasn't go to them but this is not the case.......
