Pathé Open Horn Gramophone

Post by casey-eamonn »

Hi all

I ve recently finished working on the a/m gramophone. Its got a single spring Thorens motor and a improvised German made HMV reproducer. I take it for granted that the HMV reproducer was just used to convert the machine to play lateral groove records but is the Thorens motor correct for this machine? It absolutely appears original as there are no mysterious holes anywhere on the motorboard.

The horn has a kind of timber effect painted on tin.It was badly damaged and some more of the paint work was beginning to fall off so I used Owatrol oil to stabilise the paintwork and contain the rust.It looks a bit shiny but will dull down over time and can be painted/sprayed over if necessary (I like it as is to be honest).

Has anyone got any idea of model and year?

I ve attached photos of the finished product.
