Hello.
A spring in my HMV 130 tabletop gramophone has broken.
As I'm about to put a new spring in it, I wonder if I should rather change both springs instead of just one?
Thanks for your opinions.

Re: HMV 32 motor, spring change question
The usual advice is that if one breaks, you should change both. Otherwise, you will have one new more powerful spring, and one older, weaker spring.
I'm sure some people don't bother, but changing both is what I have done for decades.

Yes, change both. If you have things apart to change one you are there anyways- why NOT change both? It's almost silly not to.
You may want to consider new governor springs as well.

When they get weak, speed is erratic. I am noticing this more and more as Victor machines continue to age here in USA. I think that if new governor springs are available- for ANY machine- they should be replaced while there is a supply. That's just my opinion- yours may vary.Daithi wrote:Whats the story with governor springs Georg?gramophone-georg wrote: You may want to consider new governor springs as well.
