E.M.G Mk VIII with a Frank Darrieulat case

This EMG Mk VIII belongs to Iain Warner. He is currently trying to sign up to this forum but is having problems. I assume the admin folk are working on this issue.
Hopefully Iain will join us soon on this discussion.

This is an E.M.G Mk VIII with a Frank Darrieulat veneered case. Iain kindly sent me some pictures and it was the first of it kind that I had seen. Iain pointed out another one in an earlier post on this forum. I had missed it. "Can't see the wood for the trees".

Wow, now that is pretty, the shaping to the cabinet is wonderful

Interesting that the VIII under the Darrieulat one in that link is a converted magnaphone.

Many thanks for posting Chunny and this has prompted me to search out photos of a similar instrument, but in Mk X form, owned by someone I met twenty years ago. The maker is clearly the same man. I did not guess that it was Darrieulat. This must also be a unique artefact ?

Thank you Graham for pictures of the Mk X. It's beautiful.
I'm guessing its a cabinet by Frank Darrieulat. The border veneer is very Darrieulat although his veneers usually have much more elaborate grains. At Grape St, Darrieulat would have had premises in the same building as EMG.

That desk has much to answer for. As "The EMG Story" relates, it was Ginn's use of the company cheque book to furnish his house which led to his acrimonious departure from EMG, the founding of Expert and the rivalry which followed. Two firms competing for a small niche market was always destined to end in tears.

That cabinet is really unique... Someone should try to replicate it.

Two VERY interesting and historic machines, Mkv111 and the Mk10. Workmanship of the highest calibre indeed from Mr Darrieulat

I have something similar - Brown's Record Cabinet, made in Cincinnati. The top dimensions perfectly fit my EMG Mark IX.

I've never seen one of these record cabinets either !
