Re: EMG Flyers
I must own up to being the buyer. I decided on Thursday to put a bid in for it. Whether it is a wise purchase or not time will tell. If the diaphragm is not repairable, in the short term my thinking is I could rebuild it with a mica diaphragm, although the aim is to obtain an aluminium diaphragm soundbox.

Well done Iain! Good to know that it's "in the fold".

Well done Iain---you have a bargain Sir ! I was anticipating a much higher price. You have a lovely item completely correct for your great gramophone which I am sure will produce much good sound happiness when restored.

Hi Iain, I agree with Graham, you have a bargain there. Just think how many hours it would take, and the cost, to make a new brass soundbox-a lot more than you paid I am sure, and you have the genuine item! I hope before long that you can obtain an aluminium diaphragm for it, and enjoy comparing the mica box against the aluminium diaphragm box.
I also thought it would fetch quite a bit more than that. I sold one some years ago, and it fetched a substantially higher sum.

Re: EMG Flyers
My ebay purchase arrived a couple of days ago and I have started on the overhaul. As can be seen in the following photographs the diaphragm is well and truly perforated, but I am really grateful that Chunny has generously said he is sending me a replacement. Judging by the gunge on the inside of the body and the corrosion of the diaphragm I guess it must have been sitting in a damp shed for some time.
Interestingly there are no lock nuts on the spring set screws, just what appears to be a thin felt washer above and below the spring eye.

Re: EMG Flyers
Wonderful to see (the state of the diaphragm less so of course)! Do please keep us posted.
Meanwhile on the subject of EMG writings, I happened across this: https://archive.org/details/TMR46/page/n3/mode/2up - for greater ease I've also compiled it into a document, attached. The major part of it seems to be a sort of precursor to EMG's 'Book of the Fibre Needle' (written later by Balfour Davey).

Just measured it up. It's 42mm diameter.
