Rare HMV Nipper Paper Weight ?

Post by poodling around »

I was idly looking at 'Gumtree' and saw what maybe a 1930's ornament sitting on top of the gramophone ?

The advert doesn't actually directly seem to make any reference to the item - only the records and the gramophone.

Having done a bit of research it seems to resemble ornaments mentioned on page 135 in my copy of 'The Collectors Guide To 'His Master's Voice' Nipper Souvenirs'.

Also, it seems to resemble an item soundgen was selling some time ago - except his was white in colour but this one has various colours. Could soundgen's have been an un-finished / unglazed example ? (After all, it was found in an HMV skip).

Anyway, could this be an original rare paperweight I wonder ?

I have a couple of the paperweights: One looks like its been painted over and over. The other is original white chalk / plaster. Other image is from the Nipper Collectors book mentioned already.
