Even when this shop was photographed over 100 years ago it was described as old.
It would be interesting to know whether it survived two world wars and has been preserved.

What a fabulous evocative photograph Roger. Thank you very much for posting. Most sadly, I should think survival of two world wars is rather unlikely but it would certainly be extremely interesting to know.

This is 14 rue st jean, caen, today. All the street has modern buildings, except one old cchurch. Seems that this could have been destroyed in the wwii bombings...

Here is a Before/After view of historic Rue St Jean. The arrow is pointing to a building which appears to be similar to the one in the original photo... :(
