That's a coincidence! I had exactly the same experience with the same make and model, except mine wasn't as stunning as this one, it was black with nickel fittings. After years of replacing springs with no problem, this was the one that got away. I too have the scars to prove it!

Hmmm that’s interesting about the springs. A few months ago I put in a new Edison home spring…. And it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I didn’t reallr think too much about these springs… they seemed strong but not unusually thick.

Does anyone know if replacements are available for this machine?
