HMV 102 with universal autobrake no. 5

I don't know yet who will win the battle, it starts this next week, right now I am cleaning the springs, governors etc etc.

I must be lucky in this respect as I have two 102's with the no. 5 brake and both work perfectly, so well in fact that I found myself questioning why HMV abandoned it in the first place!

Well, honestly I had not paid attention to that fact, a good observation !!

I have finally reinstalled the universal autobrake on one of the two blue machines, after servicing the motor. I don't know if it is the age, or if HMV changed grease in their production around this time, because the grease in this 102 were much harder to clean out than in the few years younger 102s I have serviced quite a few of.

Now it is all about adjusting the autobrake. I have oiled all parts, apart from the area around the red rubber washer. Should I also oil this area?

The problem right now, is that the turntable is spinning when the tonearm is at the rest position. I need some guidance on where to adjust, to make it work properly, so the turntable stops when the tonearm is in the rest position.

Being a complex affair, anything is possible... but first things first: comparing your brake with the ones in the YouTube videos... Are you sure that all the parts are in their places correctly? The brake fork lever is correctly placed between the tonearm fingers? This is a bit tricky...

I have taken some photos, and upload them. It shows the tone arm and the brake fork lever between the tone arm fingers. And yes, I have compared with the youtube videos, but of course..after viewing too much, one can become blind. The movements of the auto brake looks similar to the videos, before the turntable is attached, and also both the two small springs are in correct position.
The red rubber washer was inituially misplaced, but I have placed it now where it belongs, and the tone arm moves quite smoothly across the turntable after being used a few times.
I have not oiled the area around the red rubber washer yet though, I remember I once read it should not be oiled, or maybe that was a red washer belonging to another HMV auto brake, the more I think about that fact, the more I really start to think it was the red smaller washer on a later auto brake...
