A 35" hand made horn

Post by Ahmed »

Introducing Maurice the giant horn. Maurice is so big, you can get a couple Edison Gems in a stable orbit around him :D

Maurice is my first attempt at building a horn. He is built to Wilson's exponential horn formula, measuring just over 35" (~90cm) in diameter, with a total length of 7' (~2.1m).

It is an experimental project which has been bubbling away in my head for some time. The whole process from research & planning to the actual build has been incredibly rewarding, with a lot of learning throughout.

You will notice it is made up of two sections so it can be taken apart to pass through doors/get in the car. As for details of the build, I shall stick to my story that it was propagated from spores :geek:

Sound wise, I will let Maurice speak for himself. Videos were recorded with an HMV 31 base and my EMG/Orchorsol soundbox (viewtopic.php?p=297679):

- Kipnis, Over The Steppe: https://youtu.be/DFYlYp7WgEk
- Hall, Teddy Bear's Picnic: https://youtu.be/ahfZcVIv484

Once I've recovered from this one, Maurice v2 will follow incorporating all the learning from this one....stay tuned :)

Cheers. It is a composite, but that's all I'm happy to share publicly at the moment :)
