The 101 in UK was produced 1925 to 1931, when the 102 replaced it. It could be helpful if you check if there's an ivorine plaque with model number and serial number or a metal plaque below the turntable...
If the soundbox lettering is at the back then it is later than 1925-26, but I don't know when the new motor was introduced... I'll bet yours is from 1926-27. I believe the motor 59 was introduced in 1928, but I'll have to check the HMV portables book by Dave Cooper.... Also the change of the way of attachment the crank inside for storage.
Maybe any of our experts will jump in to shed some light.
Info for your curiosity: the intermediate hook for holding the crank had originally two legs like the other two, but typically one leg is broken because it was somewhat misplaced at the factory, and suffered from strange tension. A systematic HMV assembly error! :)

Your 101 dates to about 1927, as it has the earlier "thick frame" lid transfer. A redesigned lid transfer was introduced in 1928.

Ah, interesting thank you. I have searched for a tag or label but nothing on here or under the turntable unfortunately or any etched serial numbers.

I carefully removed the wooden panel under the turntable, no labels or ivorine plaque but did see these part numbers and oiling diagram.

It's a 410 motor, and the early type of lid catch, so a 101C, 1927-8.
