The seller obviously couldn't get hold of a Columbia transfer when he re-covered it, so he slapped an HMV one on.

It's a 204, but assembled, probably in India, in 1940; perhaps there was a plan to re-number all Columbias in a 9000 series, which got forgotten about by 1945.

Sorry, poor old thing's getting past it -- it's 1946, not 1940, but nonetheless I reckon the Indian factory was adopting a 9000 series for all Columbia portables.. Did they keep it up? I don't know.
