Unique portable - is that real?

Post by alang »

Just saw this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Real-Antique-Co ... 4ac91214e7
Is this real or an interesting fantasy contraption?

Thanks

The Garrard motor was certainly "Manufactured in the United Kingdom", but I reckon the rest was made in fantasy land. Why on earth would you need a mirror in the lid? If you magnify the images the cabinet is very roughly stained, and the colour doesn't match on all panels. And what are those chunks missing from the bottom edge? In my opinion, definately a home-made job, and a bad one at that.

At best I'd say this was put together by some not very skilled wood shop in India. Sort of a nice idea, but very clumsy.

It has a genuine "Hand Make" "Sunata" reproducer, too! oy vey.

Then there was the Amberola 30 with a glass top. Why, oh why? :?

Even HMV in India made some very strange machines , see the picture below , I have seen some of these HMV machines with identical banding as a finish so guess this is an attemt to copy that , and yes there are original machines with mirrors in the lid !

The asking price for that VV-XI top is $549.99. Does that mean it would be worth $1,099.98 if still whole? :P
