I have a hard time believing that Ebay keeps a $200m float for two days (assuming on the third day, $100m is paid out and another new $100m replaces it) and earns nothing from it.

Of course they earn on the float... and it nicely inflates their "cash on hand" figures, too.

I have ceased selling on eBay since they changed the way in which sellers get paid.
Having spent my entire working life in positions of trust dealing with other people's money, I am not prepared to give eBay access to my bank account. If I ever decide to resume selling I will open a separate basic current account for the sole purpose of receiving payments from eBay. I do not bank on line, so provided that I make any withdrawals from the eBay account in cash it cannot be linked with any of my other bank accounts.

This globalization and the free access of big companies as Google, Microsoft, eBay, etc to one's data and bank accounts, no, no.. I neither like it at all. Whatsoever.
If I ever start to sell, I'll try to use the forum or whatever like place, dealing in the end directly with one person only, using PayPal or something alike. PayPal seems yet to be a fine place. I wonder how longer would THEY wait to put their claws on it too!

This situation came about because eBay and PayPal have parted company. The consequences are explained here :

Yes, but these days there are more and more organisations which are well able to make you (and me, and everyone) dance to their tunes when-ever they want.

Resistance is, as I believe the word is, futile.
