"Interesting" machine-- So what is the verdict?? Is it legit? I'm not well-versed on portables, but I haven't seen anything similar.
From the angle of the pic it's hard to tell, but it doesn't appear lid would close with the horn in that position. Was horn pulled off before closing? Neat concept if it works.

I've never seen one before, but I believe it's legit. I think the horn is rather "flat" so that it all fits when the case is shut. I assume the horn can swing out while in the playing position.

Well it's sold-- Hope someone on the Forum got it. It was about 1 ½ hours from me and I'm going to be in that little town of Woodstock, VA on Wednesday.. OH well-- Pretty neat looking machine. They do have a great ice cream place in Woodstock, and BBQ-- I may have to console myself there If my wife lets me!

Some Russian portables featured a similar horn arrangement, probably copied from a European machine as they did with the HMV102.

Well, I'm the one who bought it...
I live about an hour south of Woodstock. The exact location of the machine though was farther east in the foothills of Shenandoah National Park.
It is very cute and smartly designed. The horn, which is aluminum, and tonearm compactly nestle in the lid when closed and are easily accessible when open.
Definitely European, but haven't got farther than that. The reproducer says "Regal", maybe some kind of Thorens? It uses a small (tiny, really) Palliard motor.
It sounds quite nice in its unrestored state. I posted a video of it playing a Harry Reser disc in the "antique phonograph enthusiasts" Facebook page.
I love it, and can't wait to fiddle with it more!

Interesting machine, but the tracking error looks poor. I would only play records I didn't care about on this machine and only on rare occasions. I have several compact portables with stubby tonearms that have similar issues. A nice curiousity, but a real "record grinder."
