Thank you Ahmed. Dave is not too far from me, so this may be worth following up.

Roger.

This afternoon my wife and I motored down to Devon and I bought the Opera.
Badged as a Concert in mahogany, it is Serial No.4645 which I understand is quite late.
The pictures show it "as found". The ferrule at the narrow end of the horn elbow has had a repair which I can improve upon, and the reproducer would benefit from a service, but otherwise there is little that needs attention.
Thanks to Ahmed for tipping me off about it, and thanks to Bob (barnettrp21122) and Inigo for their advice prior to purchase.

Fantastic, many congratulations! So glad to see it's made it to the hands of someone who'd truly appreciate it.

That is indeed late. In my database of Opera serial numbers (348 and counting) the highest reported to date is 4675.

Nice find!

Suspecting that it had been unused for some time I took the Opera to Paul Morris, who I highly recommend, for a precautionary service. The reproducer was not giving of it's best, but all it needed was a good clean and new gaskets. I thought you would like to see what Paul found when he, with great difficulty, unseized the retaining ring and opened it up :

Yesterday I hosted a meeting of the CLPGS West of England Group, the first for 18 months.
Paul Morris arrived with my Opera, which he has fully serviced including rebuilding the reproducer.
It now sounds like a good Opera should, and I could not be happier :D .
