can't believe nobody's bought these yet- there's a bunch of extra tonearms and reproducers here and those two cabinets could easily be combined to make a nice one. Quite a deal!

Oh, if I were closer... I've always wanted to take a junk Credenza and "convert" it with some sort of cylinder machine. I'd love to hear good quality cylinders played back through that huge exponential horn!

you'd have to create some sort of hinge connector for the horn or use an Amberola/opera mechanism for that, I think

Not two 8-30s, but two 8-12s -- http://www.victor-victrola.com/8-12.htm

The 8-12's horn is smaller than the one used on the 8-30, and the very long "heart" is positioned vertically--running from top to bottom.

The bottom one, which looks to have been used as a chicken coop, seems to be missing its legs. Still $40 for both seems a bargain.

You're right. The "player compartments" are very similar.

I'm thinking that the best parts of the two could be savaged to make one complete model. An 8-12, if carefully restored--sound box overhauled, broken pot metal parts replaced/repaired, any gaps in the horn sealed, etc.--is a very good performer. In terms of bass output, it's on par with the 8-30, based on the examples I've listened to.

I'd bet they could be. You'd have to do some re- veneering on that first one, but not a whole lot. I think there's at least parts for one and a half, if you found a second good cabinet you could definitely make two, but the chicken coop has gotta go.
