Interesting off brand in Providence Forge, VA

Post by dzavracky »

The price is ridiculous ($5000)... but it sure is an interesting machine. I like that you can store all the records in the front like that... but the horn doesn't seem like it's very big.

That caught my eye, too. I am familiar with this company. They were based out of Richmond, VA.

That price, though.....

If this is the kind I think it is--the horn is bigger than it looks & the lid can be the sound reflector.

I love it. That thing looks awesome.

It was "the kind I think it is" and the kind is almost identical to the Castle Grand, by the Biggs Record Player Company. Pictures of curvy horn are involved. This machine was built in Richmond, Virginia, and as a Southern-built phonograph it's a very interesting piece for all those born or living below the Mason & Dixon Line. (Or for anybody who likes huge stately record players.)

The tonearm on the machine currently for sale appears to be an orthophonic-style arm, hinting that it may have been upgraded.

Incidentally this 2009 archived posting from the "Featured Phonograph" section is why the Talking Machine Forum is the best.

Mine was a featured phonograph a few years back.
