EMG Mk.IX for auction in UK.

Post by epigramophone »

Usual droopy Mk.IX horn but appears clean and unmolested. Inconveniently (for me) located in the North East.

I got some more photos from the auction house. The horn is broken, the case was refinished, and it's my understanding the soundbox is also cobbled together. No thanks.

Looks like the horn was cut in two, more than simply "broken".

The soundbox can be found without too much difficulty. As for the case being refinished, most auctioneers wouldn't recognise a refinished case if they were hit over the head with one.

What a difference a few close up photos make. The horn damage is not visible in the original photo.

Considering all the issues, it doesn't seem unreasonable..

The owner may end having a wonderful emg for 1300 pounds and some delicate restoration work... I'd love to be the winner...!

It appears to have gone substantially up in value!

Mr Smith has it at a starting bid of £2500.

So he would have paid about £1300 including auction fees, plus either the considerable cost of postage/courier from Durham to Devon, or a round trip of almost 700 miles to collect it in person which would almost certainly have required overnight accommodation in addition to the fuel cost.
