The stand doesn't have any drawers or cupboards or secret compartments. It is practically solid and weighs about 30kg! Of course there is a hollow core.
It has been used to display singing birds, vintage radio sets and now this gramophone. It has an interesting history.

Re: Interesting Stand
IMHO the stand is way over kill as far as displaying any type phonograph.. Maybe a nice large brass vase sitting on top with some flowers in it would work LOL.

The waste of space is extravagant but impressive. The price is outrageous.

Re: Interesting Stand
Well, it's not that outrageous. I believe there's a sale currently progressing at £4000!

Still looks like a phonograph sitting on a newel post.

Yes, a newel post was a thought I had. But where are the others? Lost to posterity? It is a fabulous stand but the seller wanted to sell the pair together and I didn't really need another JM with oak horn!jukejunkie wrote: ↑Sat Aug 13, 2022 8:27 pm Still looks like a phonograph sitting on a newel post.

Although my bid was very close to the winner's I could not justify the outlay at the moment. Its going to Scotland for £2400.
The highest bid was in fact for £4000 but the buyer was in China and the seller decided after some investigation of the administrative headache ahead, not to mention high risks and pitfalls of shipping both, to look solely for UK buyer.
I could have bought the stand alone with a high enough offer but the top is quite small so only one of my machines currently without a home, would have fitted it.
Now if only I could find something as impressive in mahogany!
