Re: India, Teak HMV 114 apparently
I already have 2 114s, one with polished teak cabinet and ebonised bandings, the other brown rexine, otherwise I would buy this.
Its an oddity though; the lid looks like cheap plywood and the motorboard lift handle is nickle plated brass not bakelite as standard! I never knew the hardwood case was available without those bandings either.
It's Hen's Teeth rare and very conservatively priced.

It's missing a small, but important part - the clip that holds the arm in the storage position. Without it, the arm swings around, risking damage to the soundbox. My 114 came without one, and it's taken me 15 years to find another.

I may be missing something, but it doesn't look like it ever had one.Phono48 wrote: Fri Mar 24, 2023 6:04 am It's missing a small, but important part - the clip that holds the arm in the storage position. Here are the tell tale screw holes to the left of the tonearm :Orchorsol wrote: Fri Mar 24, 2023 6:48 amI may be missing something, but it doesn't look like it ever had one.Phono48 wrote: Fri Mar 24, 2023 6:04 am It's missing a small, but important part - the clip that holds the arm in the storage position. I wish he did, it would have saved me years of searching! The missing clip is different to the one found on the standard 102.

Potential bidders can always ask the seller whether they have the missing part. You never know......
I have found stranger things rattling around inside the horns of portables.

This example has suffered with paint loss to the horn as has my own teak 114, although mine is otherwise almost pristine.
What is the opinion of you folks regarding repainting the horns when they look like this? I've owned my machine for almost 20 years and although the internal horn paint condition bugs me I've so far resisted the temptation to redo it, mainly because I look at it so infrequently! It spoils the appearance but on the other hand I believe the scrappy original paint is a little like one of those famous supermarket marketing tag lines: a WIGIG, namely "When it's gone, it's gone."
