Nice Vic Jr on Ebay

Post by Liamhamb30 »

Pretty good looking Victor Jr on Ebay with (I think?) the original reproducer. A pretty good deal, though I'm not sure if the seller specializes in shipping phonos.

Tempted, but the inevitable incorrect (higher VAT rate) tax charge added via Ebay makes this a complete no-no for me. If it wasn't shipped by their GSP and the seller added the appropriate age of item and tax code information and shipped it via USPS, it would reduce the price by about £135 or 165 USD.

A pretty good deal you say and yet with over two dozen watchers there's currently no taker?

I've requested a pic (or confirmation of engraved printing) of the backside of the reproducer to determine if it's an original or reproduction - no response. The answer would either make it a pretty fair deal or just a so so one. When sellers won't respond I lose interest.

For such a minor machine, are there really reproduction soundboxes for these? AFAIK the soundbox is unique to this model?

Yes - many reproduction ones were made - came out of Canada. I can't recall the gentleman's name, but his were excellent.

Thanks, that's very interesting to know. Somehow this machine doesn't exactly looked messed with so I'm inclined to think it's all original but without the seller responding it does tip the scales slightly toward disinterest.

I believe the reproducer is a reproduction. Also, the crank is not an original one.

If it's THAT obvious from less than stellar photos, I'd say this is an easy pass! Thanks for confirmation on the winding handle. I did think it was strange that the wooden grip didn't match the case although I've seen many HMV machines where it isn't exactly a match either. Thanks for your advice and observations.
