FBM - Decca Salon 10 - near Chase, BC

The machine here is located in a very rural area of British Columbia, not really close to any major city. Kamloops would be the largest nearby city.

The asking price is $325 CDN, or about $235 US, 189 GBP, or 221 EUR.

It is a very handsome, impossibly-clean-looking Decca portable.

The soundbox is the wrong type for this period of Decca - only the 130 was still sold in the late 30's with the "No.8". The price is also impossibly expensive. In the UK a Model 10 rarely rises above £75. Most recent examples have been below £55, although admittedly in a lesser condition. I purchased the top-of-this-range Model "30" complete with its original packing box for £140 and it is in genuinely unmarked, mint condition. The inside appears to be new and untouched.

This "10" also has a broken lid stay and some cosmetic damage to the rexine covering which also appears to be fraying at the edges. The external fittings are corroded too. I can't see it fetching more than £60 on Ebay if it was in the UK or £25-40 if it was on The Saleroom.

We (the collective community here) have had this sort of discussion before. Decent British name-brand portables go for much higher prices here than they do in the UK or Europe where they are far more common.

But I agree that the asking price is steep, especially seeing that the machine is out in the middle of nowhere. Distances are vast here.

The thing about 'inflated prices' is a nightmare for you guys, and a morbid reality for me. If you ever go to a Gulf Arab state you will see ludicrous prices for things that do NOT deserve them. An example would be a dilapidated Coulmbia Grafanola portable which split itself with a desintigrated motor, and half eaten metal parts gong for over 60 GBP (No records included)! Speaking of records, records in the UK might go for 10p to a pound in general depending on rarity and condition, right? Here ONE worn record stuffed in a pile under a shelf goes for anywhere between 6 GBP, to 15 GBP! My wallet can't take these prices.
