Nanaimo (pronounced Na Nai Mo) is on Vancouver Island.
Random lateral thought: if you break the name of the city into two parts, Nana Imo, it could be read (in a grammatically incorrect manner) in Japanese as 七 イモ, seven potatoes, which would be the caloric equivalent of a Nanaimo bar, a dessert/coffee/tea sweet that was invented in the city.

Anyway, I will refrain from making any comments about the price or condition of the portable here in a futile effort to avoid scorn.
I will just say that the machine is a rarity here.
Should you wish to convert the Canadian price to other currencies, here is one of many currency conversion utilities: https://www.xe.com/currencyconverter/
The machine appears to have been sold in Germany, and it is accompanied by a small collection of German records? Was it made in Germany?
The pictures and video clip are cute. The needle appears to have been set down on the wrong side of the record being played.

Your 'scorn and derision' comment also allowed me to make a wry smile !
Don't know much about the gramophone though but I like it !

The gramophone appears to be in very good condition and it's a visually striking model. I tried to buy the very same model a year ago but the seller wasn't all that engaged in the process and a little reluctant to ship so it fell through.
I'd certainly buy this example although I note the soundbox isn't original and has been replaced with a generic example.

Yes, it is a de luxe Parlophone portable, the best portable they made if you don't take into account the Vazdaz hat-box model. As Steve said, the soundbox is not the original one, which may not be easy to find. A totally original machine in good condition would demand a high price in Germany, in the range of 100-200 euros.

This model was sold under the Brand of Parlophone, Odeon and Majestrola, which were all Lindström-brands.
It‘s by far not the top-of-the-line Portable, as it didn‘t even had a autobreak. The gold painting just let it look more stylish - they were sold with nickel fittings too.
I only found it as a odeon in my catalogues and it wears a range of different names from „Orion (19)31“ to „Transat“.
A friend of mine has a rar „Majestrola“ in red.
The Soundbox is a quiet moder and light one made out of plastic by the german brand „acustic“ in the 50s

Would you please care to share with us what is the top of the range portable Parlophone machine as I, for one, would very much like to see it for future reference? Thank you very much.NEKTREG wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2024 10:39 am This model was sold under the Brand of Parlophone, Odeon and Majestrola, which were all Lindström-brands.
